The Oriental Painting Course is a carefully structured, practical guide to the techniques and painting styles that evolved in China and were subsequently dispersed to other countries of the Far East. Each lesson will guide you through the materials, techniques, and subjects of Chinese painting and relate these to the underlying philosophy and folklore. The book has two different elements: lessons and information features. The lessons are project-based, so each one will enable even a complete beginner to produce a piece of finished work. Through each of the four main sections of the book the lessons move from the most basic, yet crucial, instructions on how to hold a brush and what materials to use, to executing the important images and subjects that are fundamental to Chinese brush painting. The information features clearly explain basics, such as the importance of ink, composition and perspective, and progress onto the influence of eastern philosophies on the execution of this fascinating and alluring style of painting.
