Papers consists of both paper-based materials and born digital records. A large collection of editions of various Carey's titles in English and translations of his works in many different languages (catalogued and kept in the Rare Printed Collection, SLV as Gift from Peter Carey); also books used by Carey as background research for his novels; laptop (MacBook 5.1); back-up CDs; The bulk of the records include several drafts and proofs the novels 'Chemistry of Tears' and 'Parrot & Olivier in America' and reviews of Carey's books; a small number of Peter Carey personal notebooks and a very small amount of correspondence. Also some older material including 'Wrong about Japan', My Life as a Fake', Theft: A Love Story', and 'His Illegal Self'; associated items such as Script of 'Jack Maggs', and 'Bliss: an Opera in Three Acts'; some speeches and introductions prepared by Peter Carey to welcome guest writers at Hunter College.
