Résumé du livre

Found footage pioneer Péter Forgács combines music, newsreel images and narration from private diaries with extraordinary footage taken by the captain of a Danube cruise ship between 1938 and 1945. An intimate gripping journey into the world of refugees displace by war, Captain Andrásovits filmed Slovakian Jews desperate to escape the coming conflagration, travelling by way of the Danube River to the Black Sea and beyond, to Palestine. As the war continues he begins to ferry other refugees: Bessarabian Germans expelled by the Russians in 1940. Their evacuation and resettlement in Poland as WWII progresses is a haunting counterpoint to the fate of the Jewish refugees.
