Materials produced by Derek Stanford for an essay on the subject of H.G. Wells' novels "Kipps" and "The History of Mr. Polly" to be published in the British Council's series "Notes on Literature." Materials include: 1) Original manuscript draft of essay by Stanford in a ruled notebook, with additional pages stapled in. Inside cover of the notebook has inscription: "Commenced: Sept. 10. 68. Finished: Sept. 14. 68." 2) The corrected typescript of Stanford's essay with title "H.G. Wells: Kipps and The History of Mr. Polly," with manuscript corrections in red and black ink likely by the author. 3) A printed copy of no. 88 of the British Council's "Notes on Literature," published November 1968, featuring Stanford's essay and biographical note about H.G. Wells on title page verso. 4) And accompanying materials: autographed typescript letter from Gillian Dickinson, of the Publications Department of the British Council, confirming Stanford's agreement to contribute to the publication and discusses payment.
