Résumé du livre
From September through November 1983, the Texas Archeological Survey, The University of Texas at Austin, conducted an intensive cultural resource survey of a 10,000 acre lignite prospect in Fayette County, Texas for the Lower Colorado River Authority. This project was a continuation of an earlier survey which covered approximately 13,000 acres in the same area (Nightengale and Jackson 1983). Seventy-seven prehistoric sites were recorded during the current field season. Of these, 29 were recommended for further testing. The overall creekside distribution of these sites confirmed the settlement model proposed in the f·1rst survey. Twenty nine historic sites were also recorded. Several hypotheses regarding the acculturation of German immigrant farmers are examined as well as hypotheses about the nature of the aboriginal settlement pattern. The results of this and the previous survey are summarized and placed in the context of mine permitting and a potential determination of the study area as a National Register of Historic places district.
