'How Enlightenment Came to the Tower' first appeared in a small press magazine in the UK called Scheherazade, but the version in 'Three Heralds' is much revised. 'Such a Nice Girl' is previously unpublished, while 'Last Come Assimilation' appeared in a collection called 'Digital Dreams'. As to what inspired each individual story, it's difficult to say.
