The letter gives political news and views of the Spanish fleet and the defence of Gibralter, Indian affairs concerning Sir Hector Munro and Sir Eyre Coote, and gives news of the activities of his brothers William and James. The historical notes indicate that 'Adam' referred to in the letter, was probably Adam Smith (1723-1790), political economist.
