The Village of Kinzua, Pennsylvania existed roughly one hundred sixty five years from 1801 until the construction of the Kinzua Dam in 1965 for the purpose of flood control.My grandfather, Ray Tuttle's ancestors arrived by canoe in 1801 to settle on a large island near the Senecas. Life was hard for these pioneers. They worked their farms, opened businesses, fell in love, worked some more, grew old and died. Kinzua was not just a place rich in history but also in deep, dark secrets. Amid the small town charm, things occurred you won't find in the history books. Our relatives were good people. But not always. After eight generations, Ray Tuttle and his neighbors were there to turn out the lights in the 1960's. Sadly, my generation will the last who will remember Kinzua. Thanks to old photographs and on line sources as well as residents who are good enough to share, Kinzua continues.
