Although the text provides arguments for attributing this "restored" work to Caravaggio, the reproductions of the work are careful not to; it is in fact the work of artist and restorer Kathleen Gilje, and the exhibition is an exploration of the processes of art history and authentication, as well as conjecture about the private lives of Caravaggio and his patron.
