What teachers of English experience in their first year in the classroom is often not what they are prepared for. This book draws upon the observations of thirty teachers of English in the early years of their careers to consider three key issues: classroom approaches; the daily work of the English teacher; and the individual teacher in the wider setting of the English department. Detailed examples of successful practice are presented and there are plentiful references to sources of further reading.
