Concerning Herbert's effort to preserve the New Forest; saying "Thank you very much for your kind trouble. I send several forms. I stupidly do not understand the proposed alteration ... I will think over the change. I feel you must have some good reason for it, but my own feelings are in favour of that good old simple word 'a prayer' - a memorial has a touch of northern italian architecture but a useful word all the same. I hope you will forgive my writing paper."
