Traces the history of the Jews in Sevilla from Roman times to the reconstitution of a modern community in the 20th century. Recalls anti-Jewish persecutions under Visigothic and Muslim rule. Describes the status of the Jews in the Christian kingdoms, as well as the wave of pogroms of 1391 and the general expulsion of 1492. Also refers to the Converso problem, the persecution by the Inquisition, and the "limpieza de sangre" statutes. Presents the case of playwright Felipe Godínez, who was sentenced for Judaizing in 1624 and later rehabilitated without restitution of property.
