Résumé du livre

Unfiltered Access to Charles Wesley's Struggles and Triumphs in Ministry, Charles Wesley was not only the most influential hymn writer in early Methodism; he also kept careful records through the initial decades of the revival-including accounts of some colorful characters (like the prophetess Lavington) and wayward preachers (like James Wheatley). His Manuscript Journal, an abridged and sanitized form of these records, has long been available in a nineteenth-century edition. The first two volumes in the Charles Wesley Society series were devoted to a more complete and reliable form of this text. The present volume provides the first published access to most of the more detailed journal letters from which the Manuscript Journal was derived, as well as to other manuscript accounts by Charles Wesley that have survived. These materials offer readers unfiltered access to Charles's struggles and triumphs in ministry, his vigorous contesting of Calvinism, and his frequent contesting of his brother John's actions.
