This reference guide concentrates on living, English-language writers of science fiction, although precursors such as Mary Shelley are also included. Each entry includes: a biography of the writer; complete bibliography; locations of manuscripts; further reading lists; and a critical essay. Of the 600 authors covered, some are traditional favourites - such as H.G. Wells, Robert Heinlein and J.G. Ballard - and some are among those who have changed both the style and concerns of the genre - Michael Moorcock, Ursula Le Guin and Doris Lessing.
