Founded in 1945 as a research and educational charity, the Federal Trust is now one of Europe's leading think-tanks on European integration and publishes a wide range of monographs and topical reports. The Trust is the British member of the Trans-European Policy Studies Association (TEPSA).

Drawing on his unique research into the European Parliament's use of its existing powers, Andreas Maurer suggests an agenda by which the MEPs elected in June 1999 might strengthen the future of European parliamentary democracy and build on the enhanced powers bestowed on the Parliament under the Treaty of Amsterdam.
