The two-level Multiple Meaning Vocabulary Program strategically focuses on the multidefinition words most likely to trip up students. Four research-based principles are appliced: (1) Students activate prior knowledge of the target word. (2) Target words are studied in a variety of contexts. (3) Discussion and writing are used to promote active and generative processing of the target word. (4) Students learn to self-assess their vocabulary growth through a number of checks and evaluations.
