Résumé du livre
Solvent extraction results for Dy(III) and Eu(III) using PC88A, Cyanex 572 and TEHTOUDA revealed that 3 moles of either PC88A or Cyanex 572 reacted with one mole of Dy(III) or Eu(III), whereas only one mole of TEHTOUDA reacted with one mole of Dy(III) or Eu(III). The extraction of Dy(III) and Eu(III) using three different extractants follow the order: PC88A> Cyanex 572> TEHTOUDA under similar experimental conditions, whereas the extraction of Dy(III) and Eu(III) from different acid solutions follow the order: HNO3 ~HCl> H2SO4. Under similar experimental conditions, Dy(III) extracted better than Eu(III) from any of the acids and extractants under study. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis of the loaded organic confirmed that for both Dy(III) and Eu(III), the extraction reaction was driven by a cationic exchange mechanism because there was significant shift to lower wavenumbers at characteristics bands (P=O) when PC88A and Cyanex 572 were used. For TEHTOUDA, a shift in C=O band to higher wavenumbers was observed. Computational modeling results showed that the extraction of Dy(III) was more favored than Eu(III) using organic extractants, which was in agreement with the experimental results observed.
