Résumé du livre

As a bio-bibliographical sketch of Johnson, this work is divided into two sections. It begins with a biographical sketch of Johnson's political career; this provides a perspective on California's progressive era, the League of Nations controversy, the Great Depression and the New Deal, the controversy over the reorganization of the Supreme Court, and preparation for World War II. Quotations from Johnson's major speeches, newspaper accounts of his campaigns, and excerpts from personal letters are included. The biographical sketch is followed by an annotated bibliography that is divided into a collection of selected works mentioning Johnson, articles written by him, and a collection of important speeches taken from the Congressional Record.
