Jerome Grayson (Gray) St. George has returned to the St. George Cabal. Michael is recovering, and Vince and Stephanie have been accepted, if not welcomed, into the cabal. When Gray insists on returning to Danton Bay, Sean, The Hunter, is sent with him, charged with protecting and training the heir to the St. George Cabal. Gray isn't happy having a minder, or being made to train as a magic-user and, despite being a novice with magic, Sean soon finds that Gray is no pushover. They forge an uneasy truce, but when Lisa arrives in town asking for help, Sean is forced to choose between the cabal he serves and the new friends who have earned his loyalty.
