He gives some popular military slang words of his time. Hoffman describes the Japanese civilians as easy going. He details a typical day as a United States (U.S.) Army soldier on the front lines and the troubles of winter warfare. He says that Korean Augmentation to the United States Army (KATUSA.) Soldiers were good but some "ready to retreat." He describes the enemy soldiers as dedicated, not well-trained, and not liking to work long hours. Some of the enemy's weapons were crude. Hoffman writes that Manchuria should have been bombed. He briefly describes what affected morale and also describes a typical day in reserve.
