Résumé du livre
Rumour had reached me all along the road, after leaving Ta-chien-lu, that the Tibetans had heard of my approach at the head of an army and were prepared to resist an invasion of Tibet from the east. My caravan had arrived within four miles of the frontier; the wildest rumours were now afloat; and the Chinese officials who accompanied me from Batang were manifestly disconcerted. The Tibetan elders of Pang-mu-t'ang had ridden as far east as K'ung-tzu-ting to announce that Tibetan scouts were waiting in the village to carry news of my arrival to the Tibetan chief guarding the frontier.
