Exploration Into Augmenting the "decision View" of Software Architecture

This thesis documents exploratory "research for design" rather than the mainstream "research of design" or "research through design" [Hanington12, Ch.70]. Exploratory studies are those where the researcher knows little about the situation, or has no information on how similar research problems have been solved [Sekaran92, p.114]. Exploration of a non-mainstream topic is not the uncertainty here. The unit of research - aspects of decision making and decision choices for the architectural design of software systems - is the main source of uncertainty.
