Abstract: "This paper proposes a new error recovery scheme for High Speed ATM Networks. It is an hybrid scheme based on incorporating forward Error Correction (FEC) to an end-to-end Automatic Repeat reQuest (ARQ) Scheme. It addresses the most important cause of errors in ATM networks which is the consecutive cell discard problem. An analytical model is developed and its performance evaluation shows a strong reduction in the number of retransmissions required, over a plain ARQ scheme."
