The purpose of this unit is to inform students in B.C. schools on the issue of poverty. The information presented is intended to allow students some insights into the realities of living in poverty and also to help them understand and reflect on the causes and consequences of poverty. The ultimate objective of the unit is to have students develop sufficient awareness of poverty as a significant social issue that they will resolve to help find ways to end it.
