Résumé du livre
TRANSFORMING LIGHT is a close examination of the stained glass windows in First Congregational UCC in Portland, Oregon. The three large Gothic windows in the auditorium are all designed by Povey Brothers Studio between 1906-1910. The essays explore the biblical poetics that give verbal information that define the images and symbols. In each instance, the visual source of the image is given. Other windows in the church created by other artists include those in the stairways leading to the auditorium on the second floor and the windows in the chapel on the lower floor adjacent to the ArtReach Gallery. There are three additional essays: Dal Yockey's essay relates to the state of the glass windows; Nanci Tangeman's essay describes the gifts given to make the windows possible; Grant Edwards' essay describes the history of the organ, situated just above the platform.
