Cardano is a decentralized, open-source blockchain platform that is powered by the native cryptocurrency, ADA. It was created in 2015 by blockchain development firm Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK) and is led by Charles Hoskinson, co-founder of Ethereum. Cardano is built on a proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus algorithm and uses a unique multi-layered architecture that separates the settlement layer and the control layer, allowing for the creation of smart contracts and decentralized applications (Dapps). Cardano is designed to be a more secure and scalable platform for the creation and execution of smart contracts and Dapps, with a focus on privacy and regulatory compliance. It is also designed to be more energy-efficient than proof-of-work (PoW) blockchain platforms, such as Bitcoin, and until recently Ethereum.
