The book is an attempt to examine nature of evolving political culture and democratic development in the five states of Central Asia, namely, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmensitan. It highlights the historical and cultural factors influencing the political process in these states. The role of institutional as well as informal political factors like caln and civil society in shaping the democratisation processs had also been analysed. Radical Islam and inter and intra-ethnic conflicts in these states have also been examined in the present work. About Author : Dr. Nalin Kumar Mohapatra, (born. 1972), completed his M.Phil and Ph.D. from Centre for Russian & Central Asian Studies, (fromerly Centre for Russian, Central Asian and East European Studies), School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has worked as a Project Fellow in Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies, Kolkata and currently working as an Associate Editor of the triennial Journal, Contemporary Central Asia, published by Cental Asian Studies Foundation (regd.), New Delhi.
