The H. Thomas Kearney Papers contain material on the "Transition" program conducted by North Carolina State University during the 1970s. About fifty freshmen were selected to participate in a one-year "group learning experience." In a residence hall setting the students took courses in English, History, and Social Studies. The papers include material relating to a student-produced performance based on readings from diaries, letters, and contemporary newspaper accounts dealing with North Carolina's involvement in the Civil War.
