Résumé du livre

An eccentric brother and sister turn their historic mansion into a home for elderly misfits, loveable folks who are nonetheless in poor favor with the government of their small town. The residents include a tax-evading governor who was never a governor, a pornographic Mex-Am who puts his butt-prints on the window panes, and a ninety-something diva who may or may not have been a Cotton Club star. There is an opening murder in the home, that of a former sideshow attraction. A surpassingly humble resident confesses, though no one believes him save a baleful police chief and a well-armored lady detective. Everyone has a personal story, some of them triumphant, except the retired infantry major surrenders his attempt to measure the precise distance from the earth to the moon. Age happens, as one of the characters relates; and, sometimes, so do happy endings.
