Two diplomas associated with Winthrop Normal and Industrial College (the pre-cursor to Winthrop College, the South Carolina College for Women in Rock Hill, S.C.): diploma, 4 June 1912, for a Bachelor's degree, issued to Irene Allan Bryan (1892-1974) for completion of her studies in "Normal Latin courses," granting her the right to teach in any South Carolina public school [a native of Sumter (S.C.), Bryan was the daughter of William Hudson Bryan (1856-1941) and Susan Dukes Carson Bryan (1856-1929)]. This diploma includes the signatures of college president David Bancroft Johnson, secretary Mamie E. Gunter, and Governor Coleman L. Blease, a member of the Board of Trustees. This collection also includes an undated, contemporary diploma (with spaces left blank), issued by the Wade Hampton Literary Society of Winthrop, printed for use during the decade of the 1910s
