Résumé du livre
Literacy activities in the homes of three hearing families with hearing-impaired children were observed over a ten month period. Contrary to reports of a paucity of literacy events in the homes of hearing-impaired children of hearing parents, this study revealed a wealth of reading and writing activities in the three homes visited. Specifically, instrumental, confirmational, and critical/educational types of reading were observed and reported; substitutes for oral messages, social-interactional, and recreational uses of writing were also found and presented.
