Résumé du livre
Eleven letters written by Smith to Louisa Hawkes Barrows Dorman, as a soldier in the Civil War and after the war. The early letters are written from Portland, while the middle letters were written from the field, while Smith was with the 17th Maine Infantry; he was wounded at Gettsyburg and never saw action again. The last few letters provide insights to Portland near the end of the war. Also includes a transcription by Edward A. Holt, "The Civil War Letters of Horace A. Smith 1861-1870," as well as a letter from Holt to Nicholas Noyes of the Maine Historical Society giving more biographical information about Smith. The transcribed letters are spiral bound and include genealogical information and an index.
