Résumé du livre
Written by contributors from around the world, this work contains disease chapters as well as personal essays from medical professionals involved in HIV/AIDS research, plus material on societal issues surrounding HIV/AIDS, such as stigma and ethnicity. A chapter on prevention chronicles the history of policies and prevention approaches in the US and internationally, and describes promising medical methods of prevention, such as ARV medications. Disease chapters detail transmission and epidemiology, virology and laboratory analysis, and clinical manifestations in various body systems. Later sections highlight treatment of AIDS-associated infections and malignancies, explore issues with specific populations such as children and sex workers, report on AIDS in specific global areas, and examine societal issues such as HIV and violence against women. The book's final section describes new medicines, including a possible vaccine. The book includes an extensive list of acronyms and is illustrated with color photos and images in a two-color layout. Hall is affiliated with the Department of Medical Dermatology at University of Missouri-Kansas City. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
