Résumé du livre
Letter written by Jean-Françoise-Augustin Janvier de Flainville, attorney and assessor at the Hotel de Ville, an erudite man and innovative spirit, to Pierre-Claude Nivelle de La Chaussée, author of École des mères, an example of "comédie larmoyante" or "weepy" comedy, and his most popular work, which premiered in April 1744. La Chaussée's third major play, written in irregular verse, had a theme of family reunion and the resolution of a bitter rivalry between mother and daughter. It is the author's strong vindication of bourgeois morality over "fashionable" corruption; see G. Brereton, French comic drama from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century (1977), page 227.
