Résumé du livre

This report concerns itself with individuals who work in schools in an instructional capacity. The focus is on the largest group among those individuals: regular classroom teachers. The report identifies their expectations, concerns, and working conditions. In addition, it addresses the need to attract quality teachers to positions in British Columbia's schools and to ensure that they wish to remain once they arrive. The report describes the past and present characteristics of the public school teaching force in British Columbia's schools. It addresses issues concerning past and future supply of, and demand for, teachers. The following section describes past and present independent school teacher characteristics and likely future supply and demand. The remainder of the report focuses on teacher preparation, professional development, certification, competence, working conditions, compensation, and professionalism/unionism.
