Résumé du livre
From the days of Casualty to today's Emergency Departments, nurses have played a major role in that development. In this book, Gary Jones CBE covers the early years before Casualty, takes us into the 1960s and goes on to track the pathway of development from the first national group of A&E nurses through to 2007. In 1972 A&E nurses were welcomed into the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), first as a group then as a forum. As time moved on the forum became the RCN Accident & Emergency Nursing Association in 1990, and then reflecting the changing nature of emergency care moved to become the RCN Emergency Care Association in 2003.Throughout the period 1977 to 2007 Gary's career in A&E nursing was intertwined with the development of this specialty. This is Gary's second book of fascinating memoirs of his time in emergency nursing; it ably demonstrates how his influence in developing emergency care, both in his own department at Orsett Hospital, Essex and through his national role in the RCN and the development of paramedics, has greatly enhanced the service. The final chapter by emergency nurse Joanna Sloan brings the story right up to date and shows how the early pioneers have left a legacy that enables our current emergency nurses to move even further forward.
