The book's title reflects Guillard's new surroundings in a historic town near Merrymeeting Bay, where six rivers join in one body of water before flowing out to the Gulf of Maine.Metaphorically, it refers to the author's many streams of thought coming together-poems of grief, of great joy, of village life, and of closeness with Nature, her creatures and her laws, always a theme in Guillard's poetry.
