Résumé du livre

The Machinations of men being what they are, there is great evil in the world occasionally staring us directly in the face without our even knowing. But then, sometimes we choose to ignore that evil because it is someone we love or believe deserves the benefit of the doubt, when they really don't. That is when we put ourselves and those around us in grave danger that we can only imagine until the day it comes knocking on our front door.

Such was the error of Josephine Snyder and her grandson with the son of herself and her psychotic husband. A man of immense cruelty bent on nothing but profit at the expense of anyone that was within his power to manipulate. His entire premise in life was money, money, money and if he could make more of it by putting others into poverty, he didn't care; it was his to make. So, was the continuation of the Snyder empire that had started with the benevolent man before her husband and would some day continue with her loving and socially alert progeny, if he survived.

Josephine hated that part of the man she had married but she had pulled herself from abject poverty by doing so; although that had not been her intent, she didn't want to go back to the miserable life of hand to mouth in which she'd grown up. She had not understood his psychosis when they had married as she was a beauty like so few others and he was enamored with that beauty and treated her like no other. Life was good in the Snyder empire, but it would lead to untold trials and even horrors she could never imagine. Who would think that evil itself could be an inherent trait passed from one generation to the next. Yet, the Bible itself teaches us that the sins of the father are visited upon the third and fourth generation.

And so, the story of Slider Carr was set and played out.
