Résumé du livre
How effective are developmental, relationship based interventions in increasing social interaction, improving communication and social-emotional functioning of children diagnosed with autism or pervasive developmental disorder? This study presents preliminary results on the evaluation of developmental and relationship based interventions with autistic children. Since this approach in not known or used in Puerto Rico, a meta-analysis was used in order to analyze its effectiveness. Results from this meta-analysis of 3 dependent variables from 6 studies (23 sub studies) comparing pre and post treatment intervention with children with autism, resulted in a mean weighted effect size d=0.681 for communication/language, d=0.819 for social interaction and, d=0.952 for functional emotional development. These results show a positive change in pre and post intervention analysis applying the above mentioned modalities.
