Letters and postcards from nineteen-year-old Pvt. Edward G. Miles, a native of Asheville, North Carolina, who was stationed in France during World War I, to sixteen-year-old Nancy Robinson [Ruff], who later married Thomas Kincaid Ruff (1900-1960). The letters are sent from WWI battle stations and furlough points, chiefly in France, to "Miss Robinson," in Asheville, North Carolina, Bradford, Massachusetts, and Columbia, South Carolina, with comments re military life, conditions at the front, casualties, his work as an ambulance driver, and his associations with Allied troops and civilians
