Literary mss., typescripts, correspondence, legal papers, periodical publications, personal papers, diaries, illustrations, and photographs relating to Margaret Wise Brown, her writings, and personal life. Series I includes published stories, poems, and songs, both handwritten and typed, often with Brown's notes, also some book dummies for some of her works; Series II contains unpublished poems and songs, essays and stories, ideas for records, plays, radio and television programs, musical scores with words by Brown and music by Elizabeth Randolph or Dorothy Cadzow, and composition books with ideas for stories, notes, and thoughts, grouped by format and arranged alphabetically within format; Series III. Correspondence with letters to and from Brown; IV: Muscellaneous papers containing Brown's college papers and creative stories, notes from writing workshops in which she participated including notes on how children related to her writing, and book reviews and articles on her work clipped from newspapers; Series V: Illustrations, generally in storyboard form, for a few of Margaret Wise Brown's published works, including the complete storyboard for The Little Brass Band and assorted illustrations for several other books including The Little Fir Tree, also including work by Barbara Cooney and Clement Hurd; VI: materials about Brown including articles, theses, and mss., grouped by format; and VII: Photographs containing black and white photos of Brown, from her childhood until shortly before her death as well as images of her homes in New York City and Maine.
