"The book contains 2,165 entries, accompanied by more than 1,000 colour plates and black-and-white illustrations, and further supported by maps, a historical chronology and a timeline of ceramic production throughout China's history. Also included are selected line drawings which provide a graphic analysis of the evolution and variety of shapes (Chapter 1) and decorative styles (Chapter 5) found on Chinese ceramics. Four indices assist readers in locating entries in English or Pinyin. Chinese characters and Pinyin words are listed in entry titles and wherever possible in the body text."
