It is a romantic suspense novel, a sequel, following the same characters as the first book, Gulf of Deception. Maddie and Geoff can breathe easily now that Scott Tynsdale is in prison for the murder of David Delacroix, Maddie's fiancé. He also attempted to have Maddie murdered as well but that plan was thwarted, and he was captured. Awaiting trial, Scott Tynsdale is plotting to escape so that he can eliminate the only eyewitness to his crimes, Madison Alexander. After Scott escapes from the Federal prison, Geoff is once again trying to keep Maddie safe from him and try to figure out his next move.
