Papers, 1865-1935, of John Bratton (1831-1898) consist of personal correspondence and newspaper clippings including: letter, 20 November 1865, discussing his having mistakenly received another man's presidential pardon; letter, 11 April 1891, regarding the United States education system and the recent publication of his speech on the "university bill"; letter, 10 May 1895, written to Robert Coster of New York discussing the plight of cotton farmers; and newspaper clippings, 1928-1935, published in The State newspaper discussing Bratton's service in the Confederate Army during the Civil War.
