Résumé du livre

Jan Davidoff's paintings originate in travels to distant lands: Impressions of different cultures and everyday gestures are captured in photographs which then undergo a process of creating extreme contrasts, re-composition and re-contextualisation. Davidoff reduces the motifs to their basic outlines. He layers a great many pictorial planes to create a mutual fusion; in his ndash; often mystical ndash; scenarios he confronts traditional values with a Westernised attitude to the future. This book contains works from the last four years. These works claim that the individual, isolated or as part of the crowd, sometimes tiny in comparison to monumental architecture, sometimes triumphant in the prime of life, is always confronted with the question of his or her position within the urban and anonymous society, and his or her place in the world. English and German text.
