The International Development Research Centre held a joint Canadian-Latin American workshop to explore the role of the state in social policy and related questions. This book contains the papers presented at that workshop. Subjects of the papers include development and social reform in the context of globalization, social policy reform in Canada, establishing effective social policies with limited resources, social policy in Latin America, the role of information in social policymaking, training requirements for social policymaking, and the role of integrated social policy advice.
