Résumé du livre
In addition to the Hilprecht collection of Near Eastern antiquities, the Friedrich Schiller University has two other oriental collections, the Oriental Coin Cabinet and the Alphons Stübel Collection of early Oriental photographs, which were founded and acquired in the first and second half of the 19th century. Both collections, which were unknown outside of Jena for a long time, now represent an internationally important instrument of historical research. Stefan Heidemann's article on the Oriental Coin Cabinet Jena provides an introduction to the history of the collection, an insight into its holdings and its scientific processing since the 1990s. In her contribution, Babett Forster traces the genesis and history of the Alphons Stübel collection with its large-format original prints with motifs from Egypt and the Middle East and provides an introduction to the visual language of these little-used documents, which are a unique cultural and historical source for the Middle East represent in the second half of the 19th century.
