He married ca. 1750 and immigrated to America sometime prior to the year 1770. William and his family first lived in Charles Co., Maryland and later settled in Fauquier Co., Virginia by the year 1787. William was the father of eight sons and two daughters. Descendants lived in Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Nebraska, Iowa, California and elsewhere.
