The new teaching methods will foster students' independent learning, develop their ability to apply knowledge to practical situations and impact on their sentiments to bring happiness and enthusiasm to learning. This reform has led to the rewriting of the official textbooks that are used in schools. The aim of the study in this minor thesis is to investigate Vietnamese year-nine biology educators' perceptions on pilot textbook and how closely these perceptions conform to what research says about the features of a good science textbook. Since research on textbooks have been carried out with only Western science textbooks, the comparisons can only be done using their standards. The study also seeks to investigate the teachers perceptions on how well the new year-nine biology textbook satisfy the requirements of the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training in bringing about reform to biology education for year-nine students and how well it caters for scientific and effective learning with year-nine students in Vietnam.
