Résumé du livre
In this paper, a dynamic employment model for women is estimated for rural & urban samples from the first four year of the Survey of Labour & Income Dynamics 1993-96. The empirical model is specified along with reasons for allowing state dependence in the classical model of employment. A decomposition method is described which is used to determine the extent to which observable rural-urban differences may be explained by differences in observed structure, education, age, and demographic structure differences. Section 3 describes the data, defines rural & urban labour markets, and reports descriptive statistics on the overall mobility & employment rates of women in the rural & urban samples. To capture any rural-urban differences in the secondary market, the paper also analyzes rural-urban differences in the employment rates of women in low income households. In section 4, the model of factors associated with employment is estimated both for the whole sample of women and for the sample in low income households. These sets of results are then decomposed into differences explained by observed differences in the structure of the relevant rural & urban samples and an unexplained remainder.
